PERSPECTIVE
This pair of 3BR/3BA duplexes at San Diego's Mission Beach,
fit tightly into a site that was previously occupied by a single small bungalow. |

SO FAR, SO GOOD...
The sand-colored concrete masonry units (CMU) with the 4"
split-faced bands are as designed. The off-color blocks will not be visible when
construction is complete. |

SIGNS OF TROUBLE...
Arched parapets over the entries at left, and the graceful
curves that were to form the balconies have been changed to straight lines to save money. |

YIKES!
The framing is getting out of control. What is that odd
projection at the front left just below the roof?! That was 3" guys, not 3'!
Ouch! |

OH
WELL...
This project is a good example of what can happen if you don't
allow your architect to supervise construction. Corners were cut, details were
omitted, finishes were changed, and mistakes were made. As a result the design
intent was not realized. Click the image for a larger comparison of the design and
finished structure. |
